I’m Gustavo Moré Sica. I trained as a technician in Industrial Mechatronics and in Electrical Installations, and I’ve worked professionally in electrics. Everything on this site comes out of vehicles I’ve built, lived in, or broken.

The two vehicles

A 2005 Ford Transit L2H2. I traded my car for it in December 2018 — bare metal, no windows, nothing. Eight months of evenings and weekends turned it into a camper: floor, insulation, furniture, water, electrics. No plans and no software, measuring in place and correcting as I went.

A 1982 Ford Transit motorhome. I rebuilt its entire electrical system, and it’s where I live now. The AGM battery, the two charge controllers and most of the measurements you’ll find here are from this vehicle.

What I’ve broken

This matters more than what I’ve built, so here it is:

  • I ruined a 150 Ah AGM battery by running a 230 V fan overnight through an inverter. The fan’s display said 46 W. It was actually drawing 65 to 85. What I learned from it
  • I spent close to €1,000 on a hot water system that never worked properly
  • A charge controller terminal melted from road vibration
  • A Victron MPPT died at nine months old
  • I bought an evaporative cooler that made the van worse. I now use it dry, as a fan

None of that appears in a manual, and all of it cost me money.

How I work

I measure rather than estimate. Where a figure on this site comes from a manufacturer rather than my own meter, I say so on the page.

I don’t sell equipment. No brand pays me to recommend anything. That matters in this subject, because a large share of what you’ll read about camper batteries and air conditioning is published by companies that sell camper batteries and air conditioning.

And when something doesn’t work, I write that too. Including things I bought and things I’d never buy again.
